Michael’s Desk Project

This is my first blog post of what I hope will be many. My name is Michael Skonnard. I’m 14 years old. I’m venturing out to Kenya in July (during my birthday) and given all the sacrifices I’ll have to make, I’m not sure how long I can last out there.

Well, since I’m going out to Africa I decided that it would be perfect timing to do my Eagle Scout project. I thought I could go earn some money to build desks for the school we’re building. Each desk costs about $25 to build and it will seat three children. I intend to earn enough money to build around 25 desks. This means I have to earn about $600.

Here’s what the desks look like:

If you’d like to sponsor one desk for $25, I would totally appreciate it.  You could help three African children have a more comfortable classroom by sponsoring a desk.

I’m very excited for my trip in July. I can’t wait until I have the chance to learn what it’s like for the people in Kenya. I want to help the people in Africa and make a difference. I’m looking forward to playing with the Kenyan kids. I’m looking forward to working with the locals to build my desks. I hope I can make this a reality.

  3. Michael,

This is excellent work and I will do my best to spread words and support this noble initiation.

Here is quick story for you:

When I was young my dad always told me “You need to work hard so you can enable other to work. ” It was really difficult for me to understand at that time what he really meant by that I can enable other to work. However, as a kid I understood that I must work hard and I did work hard and I still do.

Today I am grown up and I understood the second part of his advise. I must enable others by supporting them. I am fortunate that I work hard and I can do my small part.

You are fortunate that you have understood the essence of life. We all need do our best and do our part.

Congratulations to staying closer to the life.
